~a book set during the holidays~

our selection for a book set during the holiday was~

this month was our first ever progressive dinner, divided into teams, we had cocktails and appetizers at jain's house, followed up with dinner and dessert at virginia's.

if anyone has pics to share, please let me know, i only take pics when the sun is out, sorry i don't have more to share of our BEAUTIFUL evening at virginias! her house was incredible, a real treat to dine in the great hall and have dessert in the parlor, and thank you for that rousing bday song! the night was capped off with a fun round of steal that gift, thank heavens a gift dies the 3rd time or julie and i would have been forever whining!

although the evening was a great success, the book was not for the majority... for the 2 of us that enjoyed it we liked his australian humor, strained through england and plunked right into france. the others felt he was too pretentious and generally were just not entertained... our break down was the following~

ellen 4

~a book turned into a movie~

our selection for a book turned into a movie was~

i sure hope everyone had a great time at bev's for our first annual movie night! her home could not have been anymore inviting with her 4, count them FOUR delicious homemade pizzas, loads of fresh salads and a concession stand to rival any theater. not only was the food perfect, but her seating was as comfy as it gets, including chaise lounges and warm blankets for curling up. congrats to virginia for rigging the hostess gift in her favor ;-) THANK YOU BEV for hosting a very fun evening for all~

mom whats going on in there?
shhh lets just hope they share the left over popcorn...
our discussion was kept rather short since the movie was looming behind us all for a long evening for those that stayed to watch it in its entirety. it was a mixed bag of opinions, with some really enjoying the ease of the book, so much so that a couple read all in the series, others found it a bit to juvenile or formulaic in its writing style. our ratings are listed below~

jain 1.5

~a book set in the future~

our selection for a book set in the future was~

a HUGE thank you to sally paul for hosting us on such short notice, her tables were stunning and her home was magical!

after a delicious meal, girls we are getting better and better with every potluck, we sat down for a good discussion about the book...with only 2 naysayers in the group, the book was a hit! for the majority of us who enjoyed it we realized how close we truly are to such dire outcomes. several felt jilted that the book was not nicely wrapped up with themes and characters coming to a closure, where others felt it was part of the disjointed reality of an apocalypse, you just don't always get what you want! bottom line is we found it to be a very good read.
